Richard attended the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester, where he obtained a diploma in Agriculture and Farm Management. Having been born and raised on a farm in Zimbabwe, his knowledge and love for the subject stemmed from there.
Richard has managed farming enterprises and engaged in businesses relating to agriculture, primarily in Zimbabwe and Zambia. He was a Director of Sub-Sahara Produce which engaged in the wholesale trading of fresh produce from South Africa to Zimbabwe.
He has been involved in commodity trading, fruit trading, seed and banana production and sales. He also processed and facilitated out-grower programmes with government and non-government organisations.
Richard established a wholesale fruit import business into Zimbabwe for supermarket chains, wholesalers and informal traders for the Russell Stone Group, South Africa.
He established a 70ha banana farm in the Zambian Copperbelt for UK investors and supplied and marketed the produce to both the Zambian and DRC Lubumbashi informal markets.
Richard’s other trading experience includes grain, pulses trading in the SADC region, more particularly Zimbabwe, Zambia and South Africa.
More recently Richard successfully set up a sales and distribution network in Zimbabwe and Malawi for Flexipump UK, bringing a much-needed affordable irrigation solution to rural farmers
